A jail in Pohang, which lies on the east coast of South Korea, dropped 1 billion won (about $886,000) to implement a new security measure that soon will replace live guards with robots.These guards will not have the capabilities to kill people.According to Kyonggi University, “The robots are not terminators. Their job is not cracking down on violent prisoners. They are helpers. When an inmate is in a life-threatening situation or seriously ill, he or she can reach out for help quickly.”Sounds non-deadly enough.
The robots will quietly move up and down the corridors of the prisons, monitoring for unusual activity and recording everything.If they notice anything out of the ordinary, they will send an alert to a human guard.I swear I’ve seen something like this before…The robot guards are set to “roll out” in March of 2012.
