Thailand Chimp Feeds Tiger Cubs at Zoo

Dodo is a most unusual two-and-a-half-year-old male primate. The caring chimp looks after the tiger cubs that come and go at the Samut Prakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo, which is located some 25 miles east of Bangkok.

Initially, his trainers sought to challenge his capacities and were inspired by the fact that the chimp exhibited no fear of the cubs, which range in age from three weeks to five months.Diligently, they worked with Dodo until he picked up the skill of feeding them by bottle.“It wasn’t difficult as he knows how to hold the bottle. I just taught him how to hold it and stay with the cub. I have been teaching him every day so that he can do it,” says trainer Sirinaj, who has worked at the zoo for two decades.

The biggest problem with Dodo is his mischievous nature. He needs to be watched when he is caring for the cubs as he is easily distracted from his tasks as nurturer and would rather play with them. When the cubs get too big for Dodo to handle, they are moved to a more suitable area and new cubs come in to replace them.

Dodo is always busy with new mouths to feed.
