A French hotel commissioned a street graffiti artist to decorate half of one of its bedrooms. The eye-catching room at the Au Vieux Panier hotel in Marseille is half pristine white - and the other half covered in graffiti. One half features a rainbow-coloured palate of Tilt's trademark bubble tags painted along the walls, floor, furniture and even the bed linen. The other half is designed in floor-to-ceiling white - a contrast so stark that photos of the room seem almost doctored.Called the 'Panic Room', guests are charged the equivalent of £113 a night to stay in the special room.
Jessica Venediger, owner and artistic director of the hotel, annually invites artists, graphic designers and painters from all over the world to redesign six of the hotel's bedrooms. The 30-year-old said: "Since I opened in 2010 I launch an annual competition for six artists to design the interior of six of our rooms."The idea is to offer artists a three-dimensional canvas and on the other side give the opportunity to visitors to view art in a different way."We don't impose any theme the artist have carte blanche to express their creativity."Jessica re-opened the hotel last week after closing it for a month to allow the chosen artists to implement their creations.
